Addendum to my original review
From Minneapolis MinnesotaComments about iPet PROI stated in my original review that the lancets are useless, I was wrong, the lancets and the lancing device do work, one just has to use the proper technique using the lancing device. If using the meter for a cat, and you're drawing blood from their ear blood vessel, you want to line up the hole in the lancing device directly over the blood vessel, and try to keep the cat from moving, can be difficult because it's irritating to the cat, but try to keep the cat still, because if the cat moves too much it will cause the lancing device to become unaligned with the blood vessel. When blood comes out, try to keep your cat from shaking their head because that will diminish the blood, and line up the slot on the testing meter right up where the blood is flowing, and once you hear the beep from the machine, you're good. The only thing I don't like about this meter is that it doesn't have a backlight. If anyone from Ulticare is reading this, this meter really needs a backlight! If this meter had a backlight I would have given it a 5 star rating. -

Machine is good, Lancet Device is a joke!
From UndisclosedComments about iPet PRO👽 I would have gave it a 5 star where it not for the useless lancet device, I can't get enough blood from to fill the slot in the testing strips, the lancet device is a joke! The machine is good, I got this machine because 3rd Party Lab test results show it has the highest accuracy rate, 98% versus 85% for most of the other Glucose Meters on the market. -

Q & A

Is the Piet pro monitor supposed to beep after touching the test strips with blood. Do you insert the strip into the meter after getting blood on the strip or is it already inserted in the meter when getting blood??
-
To use the iPet Pro Monitor, first insert the test strip into the meter in the direction of the arrow until the meter beeps. The screen will display a code number followed by a flashing icon. At this point, press the up/down arrows to select the meal indicator. If no selection is made, the default is no meal indicator. After touching the strip to the blood drop, the meter will beep and count down as soon as there is enough blood in the test strip. Then, the test result will appear on the display.

What is the detection range of this glucose monitor??
-
According to the manufacturer, the iPet Pro displays blood sugar results from 20 to 600 mg/dL. If a “HI” or “LO” is reported, that means the meter has detected a level higher or lower than the specified range.

We have alphatrak 2 but we are wondering if we can use other test strips other than the alphatrak test strips??

Joan, The AlphaTRACK II meter is calibrated for blood glucose testing in dogs and cats. The manufacturer does not recommend using other strips in the meter as the AlphaTRACK II strips are coded specifically for dogs and cats. The AlphTRAK II system is designed to account for the differences in blood glucose distribution in the blood between animals and humans. Human blood glucose monitoring systems may underestimate glucose in dogs and cats. An incorrect determination of blood glucose will lead to incorrect dosing with anti-diabetic medications, such as insulin. Thank you, VetRxDirect

I am managing diabetes in one of my dogs and would like to run glucose tests myself. Is there anywhere that could tell me how the blood is collected with these home kits before purchase? Thank you.?
-
Ruth, Most glucose testing systems use a lancet for pricking the skin and a test strip for collecting the blood sample. The iPet system information recommends asking your dog's veterinarian for the best place to prick the skin to obtain the blood sample. The AlphaTrak system suggests a few locations that are best for obtaining blood, including the marginal ear vein in both cats and dogs, the paw pad on both cats and dogs, the leg callus, usually in dogs, and the inner or outer lip on dogs only. The marginal ear vein is often the best place to use for long-term testing. Your dog's veterinarian can help you choose the location that is the best option for you and your dog. Both systems, the iPet and the AlphaTrak, come with user guides that can help with the mechanics of using each system, and your dog's veterinarian can assist you in getting started with whichever system you choose.
